Supporting American Manufacturing

What is the first thing you consider when making a purchase? If it’s the price, you’re not alone. It’s common to compare price tags when spending your money and to choose the lowest option. But what if we considered more? What if we thought about where our hard-earned dollars were going and what they were supporting? Enter American manufacturing.

We all know that buying products that are made in the US is better for the country, but many people don’t fully grasp how imperative that is. As experts on American manufacturing, we’re here to shed some light on why it is so important to spend the extra dollar to purchase products that are made here.

1. You are supporting the USA

The money that you spend on products that are made in America goes back into our economy. The Fiesta Tableware Company pays taxes, just like the rest of the American people. The money you spend on our dishes contributes to those taxes, which in turn contributes to roads, schools, and more. If you buy from another country, none of that money comes back to you.

2. You are supporting ethical workplaces

The reason that dishes made in the US are more expensive is because our country enforces labor laws, like minimum wage and minimum working age. In the US, children are not allowed to work in factories, workers cannot be paid less than $7.25 an hour (we actually pay more than the national average in West Virginia), and workers have a limited number of hours allowed before earning overtime pay. Not every country can say that.

3. You are supporting American people

Buying American made products allows companies to stay on American soil and provide jobs to your friends, family, and neighbors. Not only does this benefit factory jobs, but it has an indirect benefit on other companies in the US. The Fiesta Tableware Company relies on hired contractors, photographers, carton manufacturers, raw material suppliers, local machine shops, hardware stores, engineering firms, and so many more to keep our business running. In fact, the Economic Policy Institute estimates that “for every person directly employed in manufacturing, manufacturing output supports more than 1.4 jobs elsewhere in the economy.”

4. You are supporting the planet

Fiesta dinnerware is made in Newell, WV. That means that the dishes you buy are being shipped to you right from our factory, not halfway around the world. By making our dishes here, we are contributing to far less fossil fuel burning, and greenhouse gas emissions than products coming from across the ocean.

We know how tempting it is to buy the cheapest option. However, when you buy from American manufacturers like us, you can be proud of the fact that the dollars you spend are contributing to something far more than just a new dish in your cabinet.
